I want to create a small custom security froup that allows access to the "Reports | Print Timetables" feature without making them a "timetabler", i.e. giving them acces to nova or the ability to moose up anything timetable related.

Whilst I am fine with the setting up of the security group itself what I don't know is which security key(s) to enable to allow access to that menu item. Any ideas?

Stupid... checked the permission spreadsheet, appears only Curricular Manager and Timetabler can see it.

Still created a new user, add them to Class Teacher and School Administrator and it appeared. Me things I would say create a new security group. Assuming you want this menu option.

Curriculum --> Timetable Printing --> View & Edit.

Thanks. I had originally tried adding this permission in however I foolishly assumed that I would just need the "view" permission. It does seem that you need both. How stupid of me for not fully understaning Capita's security permissions. :rolleyes:

You're welcome - & I don't think even Capita understand their security permissions. We're assured it will become better in System Manager 6(?).......

Did they tell you this on the 1st April? :D

There is something I'd like to see in the new system, do you know if there is somewhere to raise issues or just log it as a normal Change Request?

SysMan 7, which will be .net... which keeps... getting... moved... back GRRRRR

If you want it in the new system, I would post it on here and SupportNet then hopefully the product manager will see and include it in the new version, otherwise create an CR. Just let us know the CR so it doesn't get "lost"

Cheers folks.

I've logged a CR for my permissions issue and antoher one I have found. Have a look at

http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/40963-if-your-board-vote-my-sims-change-requests.html#post379402 if your bored.

Would it be an insult if I logged "Provide adaquete and usefull instructions on using SIMS permissions, including a full list of what all those security keys do and how to enable each menu item" as a change request? :D

Not at all - Making their permissions documentation more alligned to the actual permissions would be a rather useful addition!

Sometime ago I found on a forum - either this one or supportnet the permissions required for printing timetables - sorry I can't credit the original poster as I didn't record it

All People||Group memberships||View

Student||Timetable and... ||Record/View/Edit (all of them)

Staff|| Timetable and...|| View x2

Curriculum|Classroom Staff||Edit(All)

Curriculum||Timetable Printing|| View AND Edit

School Management||Rooms|View

School Management||Pastoral Structure|View (I think you need this one)

I have just logged in as a teacher (with standard Class Teacher Permissions) and CAN print a timetable.

Also, our Admin Assistants have always been able to print timetables.

Can I ask where you are going to print timetables as I cant get this working with class teacher or admin assistant rights.

I want staff to print via the wizard from reports - print timetables as per the original post and have also tried setting permissions - Curriculum --> Timetable Printing --> View & Edit. with no joy.

:confused:

Yes they can all print timetables... Unfortunatly via the student's record thus only one at a time.

Reports ==> "Print timetables" gives them access to print in baulk and only seems to be available to Timetabler/Cirriculum Manager.

@Rawdon I creted a custom group and gave it the Curriculum --> Timetable Printing --> View & Edit. I then assigned added a user to the group. Before they were a School Administrator and couldn't see the print timetables feature. Afterwards they could. So it should work....

How did you change the permissions?

Sincere apologies. I did not mean from Reports - I meant from Pupil Details Focus.

The Report Routine is obviously just for the Timetabler.

I agree with the way this Permission is set up because Bulk printing Timetables is not a task that teachers should be doing anymore. If they want to print a timetable for the odd pupil who has lost it then they can.

What they "Should" do and what one or two who complain a lot "want" to do are often two different things...:D
