Well here goes ,clicky my computer icon, and searchlight does its job for at least 30-40 seconds ,tried on numerous machines and exactly the same ,installed more memory and to no avail.turned off windows image aquisition or something like that and no joy, help mucho appreciated .:ear:

I think he means the little torch symbol which appears in Explorer while the system's running through the file structure.

 

Run a defrag, should help.

could be any number of things

 

DO you have many drives mapped? are they all currently active and accessible?

 

Do you have any applications installed that introduce context menus to the shell? eg: right click menu items

 

Both of these can cause serious slowdown
