Outlook Custom Welcome Email

I would like to have a custom email waiting in all new mailbox accounts for new users in the school so that the first time they open Outlook they have a welcome email with a few things regarding their accounts and IT in the school explained clearly for them to read.

 

Ideally i just want to create their user logon in AD, open up Exchange Management, create their mailbox and that it, have the pre-typed welcome email automatically sent to their mailbox as soon as its created.

wouldnt you have to go into their outlook in the first place in order to set up the account with all the in/out servers etc?

Not if the OP is using a custom profile as part of his/her install - all settings can be preset which saves a lot of hassle.

To answer the original question, it depends on what version of outlook you are using. IIRC, pre-2003 Outlook uses a Welcome.msg file, which can be edited (html), located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office. However for 2003 upwards, the message is hard coded and cannot be altered unfortunately. I wanted to be able to do the same but couldn't find a way around I'm afraid. I'm sure some clever person could script an email to be sent on first logon but that is beyond my capabilities!
