Google earth

i have had a browse around the forums, but don't seem to be able to find an answer to my question, although a lot of stuff that is quite close.

 

i want to install google earth on our network, but when i do, i want it all to cache to a folder on the network (rather than the local pc), as this way it will save on our internet bandwidth and multiple teachers can use it then.

 

any ideas how to do this? something i've missed?

Are you caching the program or the content? Some sort of caching server on your network, e.g. ISA Server, would cache some content (but not sure how much for Google Earth as it's pretty dynamic).

yeh we were wanting to cache the content if possible

This is possible - but only by using Squid 3 (which now caches Google Earth data). Because of the way GE stores data in the cache file it's not really practical to have multiple clients accessing the single flat file it creates.

 

If you're already running squid 2.6 or are keen to setup 3 then it'll work beautifully.
