have a new(ish) server. would like to move all the data from the old server onto the new one - DNS etc. is there a guide as messing around with DNS is not a pleasant experience. Microsoft ones are all about moving from 2003 to 2008 - any suggestions please! as an idea can i leave the old server just doing DNS and move all other functions (DHCP, print manager, SQL, mail and domain storage) to the net server

Its pretty easy, just build the new server as a member of the domain then run dcpromo to make it a domain controller. You can then run both the servers at the same time while you migrate the services.

Eventually after you've installed DNS, DHCP and the rest of the stuff you can move the master roles to the new server. You can then retire the old server if you want.

Its a very common process so there should be lots of info online.
