tea_and_toast Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Hello! I built our school website using 1.0 as it was the only template available at the time I was building our site. However, am I right in thinking I really shouldn't have used 1.0? What are the reasons for upgrading to 1.5? I put a lot of work into our site but am wondering if I should update it now. My only problem with 1.0 is that it's very slow to load sometimes. Is there a way to fix this without upgrading the whole site just yet? Would be happy to upgrade it next summer when I have more time on my hands.
kmount Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Hi there, Joomla 1.0 isn't supported or maintained by the Joomla people anymore since July; this would be the reason for upgrading really. More about it here.
mossj Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Security, and compatability with add-ons are the biggest reasons.
EduTech Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 Yeah i think security is the main thing, with opensource software you always need to make sure it is out of date. as hackers use people with out of date versions as there strong point but the owners weekness! James.
tea_and_toast Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks for the replies. Is it possible to update the joomla code to 1.5 whilst maintaining the template from 1.0? I really like the design of that and would like to keep it. I'm pretty new to this so sorry if this is a silly question!

Yes but it is not an easy thing to do.... go on the Joomla.org website and look through there wiki/forums for the subject.
tea_and_toast Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 Thank you, I'll take a look and see what I can do. If that's too complicated I'll just jump in and go for a full update.
