Please ignore my last post... it seems the site and database just needed half an hour to find each other! All working now, phew! Thanks once again to Edu-Tech for his great help through PMs.

It appears most of the problem here was caused by the hosting company... not me, thankfully. I've managed to import my database to the new server and it seems to be functioning fine. My only (and hopefully last!) question is: I have changed the database details within administrator to reflect the new database (ie: changed the host ip address, username etc) but the changes I have made subsequently are not reflected on the site. Will it just take a while for the new database to become associated with the site? Or should I be doing something else?

Thanks so much everyone for the help! I'm waiting for my hosting company to get back to me now as there seems to be a problem with the ssh details they've given me. EduTech has been a great help trying to figure out the problem so far. I'll let you know how I get on, thanks again!

Edu-IT, my problem is that I don't seem to be able to make a connection using the SSH. I'm on a mac with snow leopard and I'm not sure if this is causing the problem, but it just won't connect. Mossj, I'll pm you now, thank you!

Hello, at the minute my hosting company are saying that the server my current database is on is overloaded and is causing a lot of problems. They've sent me details on how to transfer to a new database, which is causing me a headache. But hopefully this will solve my problem... The 500 error only comes up every so often, do you think it's more likely to be a server problem rather than an htaccess problem like you suggest? I'm willing to look at htaccess but don't want to start messing about with it if its ok. The site didn't have any problems until about 3 months ago.

Thanks for the replies. Is it possible to update the joomla code to 1.5 whilst maintaining the template from 1.0? I really like the design of that and would like to keep it. I'm pretty new to this so sorry if this is a silly question!

I know I need to change my site to 1.5 but at the minute it's going to have to stay with 1.0 until I find the time to swap it. I'm having a problem where the server keeps timing out. This is happening at least once a day. It's our school website and doesn't look good to the parents. It's also very slow at loading when it does actually load. The error I get is below. Hello! I built our school website using 1.0 as it was the only template available at the time I was building our site. However, am I right in thinking I really shouldn't have used 1.0? What are the reasons for upgrading to 1.5? I put a lot of work into our site but am wondering if I should update it now. My only problem with 1.0 is that it's very slow to load sometimes. Is there a way to fix this without upgrading the whole site just yet? Would be happy to upgrade it next summer when I have more time on my hands.

Simon, I've done this on my site too but have a quick question. Is there a way to remove the "downloads home" link at the bottom of the page so that users can't navigate into there? Would just like this page to be the list of newsletters.

Hi, I'm playing with docman and am hoping I'll be able to use it for teachers to be able to upload content to a specific page based on their year group. I seem to have got the uploading side of docman working, I've been able to upload my own documents for testing. But when I try to download these documents they're not coming down. The page just sits as-is and nothing downloads. Am not sure how to fix this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I'm almost ready to go live! Eeek!

Baffled by how this worked, but thought I'd write how I fixed this in case anyone else reads the thread! I copied my jpg image into a new photoshop file, re-saved it, re-uploaded it and it worked... strange!

I'd forgotten to add a tag, silly me. But I've validated the code now and I still can't view the images on some browsers? Thanks for the help!

I've got a content item in which I have put the following code: Now, this all displays fine in Safari. In IE and Firefox the images do not display. Can't work it out for life of me!

Hi, Our school site is supposed to be going live shortly and I have a little problem I can't seem to solve. I published the JSN slide show to user6 and made it 800px wide. But now any content published to 'right' is not displaying in the correct space. It is displaying in the middle section instead. If anyone needs a link to see what I mean I can PM it to you. Any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I should clarify that it does display in these positions: left: it displays in the correct position and at the right size, but the content that is supposed to be displayed below the gallery is written over the top of the images instead. right: it displays in the far right module (where urgent news was) and stretches outside of the main structure of the site. top: same as right. Really appreciate any advice, I'm still learning!

Thanks very much for the replies. I've deleted the urgent news and have resized the gallery (was actually jsn, not smooth gallery, my mistake). The gallery is still not showing up. It is set to display in user6 and I've tried every other possible option with no joy. Before I deleted the urgent news section I resized the gallery. This enabled me to have the gallery the right size but the urgent news section was written over the top of the images, so I deleted that module. That then stopped the gallery from displaying, but it is published. I hope this makes sense!

Is there any way to remove the 'Urgent News' section at the top of the page and just have the Smooth Gallery stretch across that whole width? When I try to remove it by unpublishing it, it also removes the smooth gallery! Thank you!!

I'm really sorry to be a pain! I can't find extensions / plugin manager. But I did find SIG in the mambots section and it says published. Is that the right thing? Sorry!!

I've tried to use the simple image gallery and I've come across a problem I just can't seem to fix. I've put a folder in images/stories called photos and have put some photos in there. In my content items page I've put {gallery}photos{/gallery}. But when I view the page it is just displaying the code {gallery}photos{/gallery} instead of the photos. I've looked through lots of support forums and as a result have chmod all the folders to 777 but this has also made no difference. Any ideas what I could try?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could advise me on a couple of extensions that I'm looking for. 1. I really want to have a section on my site dedicated to each class in the school. You would click on your class and then you would see some documents (stories, poems) that this class had made. Like a little showcase area for each class. Is there an extension that will allow teachers to log in and upload their documents into their classroom space? And then display all the documents in a simple list for parents to click on and download? And something simple because our staff can be quite illiterate with new ICT things. I also need it to be able to added to each class and not just be a central area for the whole school. 2. I would like to add a photo gallery to the same classroom section. Each class would have their own photo gallery on their page. Teachers could log in and upload their photos to the gallery. I've been looking through the extensions but I just feel a bit overwhelmed with them all. Thanks for the help!

My smooth gallery was working fine, but when I tried to add different images to the slide show it suddenly started playing up. Now when I try to make a new gallery I get this error: Warning: Missing argument 4 for newitem() in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/mysite/httpdocs/site/administrator/components/com_smoothgallery/admin.smoothgallery.html.php on line 174 I currently have no images in the gallery, no information in the dB table and no albums created. I'm not sure how to go about fixing this. thanks for the help!

Thank you! That solved the padlocked problem, but for some reason it still won't save when I enter content and press save. Nothing happens at all, it just stays on the same page without updating. Any ideas? Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
