My neighbours son built his own house (well hired a company to build it but he designed it). 3 floors, a cellar, 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a huge kitchen, 3 reception rooms, a games room. £225'000 was the total cost.

Mortgage was easy to get but you do need minimum of 10% deposit at the moment. Apparently mortgages for self builds are even harder to get at the moment, needing a much higher deposit to secure them.

Mike.

I personally wouldn't buy with anything less than a 25% deposit. If need be a bit of boomer help thankyou very much. And i certainly would never dream of buying an end terrace.....although seems to be a lot of them about on the market. Those and houses that have had a crap knock-through done.

Absolute tripe on the market at the moment, nulabour are protecting a lot of forced sellers, i don't just mean people who overpayed or took out liar loans but overleveraged BTL'ers. It's pretty diabolical the lengths they'll got to to bail out debtors. Moral hazard anyone ?
