Sims server...

Been getting gradually slower the past few months, now even when one user opens a marksheet (pretty big marksheet) the server hits 100% CPU usage and the marksheet takes about 5 minutes to open. If it's like this with just one user I can't imagine what it's going to be like come september.

 

Do I need top upgrade my hardware or are there any hotfixes/solutions that you guys know about?

 

Currently running on an IBM XSeries 346, Intel Xeon 3GHz, 3.37GB RAM.

 

Generally about 80 sims users.

What version of SQL are you running

IBM MAT3073N x4 in a RAID 5 setup (120GB Capacity, 54GB Free)

 

MDF = 1.777GB

LDF = 63MB

 

Running SQL Server 2005 Version 8.00.760

 

In Task Manager it shows sqlservr.exe running twice, each using 50% CPU, one using 1,701,500K memory, the other using 370K

nothing obvious there and that spec looks fine, have you tried updating the SQL server to SP3?

I haven't, is it easy enough to do? Do you think it'll have any effect?

are you sure about the numbers as I thought that SQL 2005 should be a series 9

ok that is the structure of an SQL 2005 database. I think that the number you are getting is looking at one of the older databases.

 

I can't see any reason for the server to run slowly with the configuration that you have. I would raise with Capita as this may be a problem inside the database
