New GPO options

Hi all,

 

Should hopefully be installing our new servers tomorrow (if they arrive) i've been playing with server 2008 on a VM with an XP client but i cant seem to get any of the new GPO options to apply. Such as creating shortcuts, ODBC connections etc.... Do these work in XP? or is SP3 needed. SP2 is on the VM at the moment.

You do need XP SP3, Vista (I'd recommend SP1 or later) or Windows 7.

Policy options specify which version of windows they support, many are exclusively vista/7/2008.

 

The preferences section rather than the policies section need the client side extensions (CSE) to be installed on XP/Vista

im hoping client side extensions can be deployed via WSUS!

 

We've just re-done all our images with SP3, Kev isnt gonna be pleased if it wont lol

Aparently you can, although it is classed as a feature pack, having sp3 should avoid the needing xmllite as a prerequisite

I don't think it is from memory. Why didn't you put it on your image? The easiest way would be to download the update and script it to run silently at startup.

 

You may want to do this anyway, as it can take some machines days to check-in with WSUS, depending on your configuration settings.

Cheers guys will look for a way to install it on startup i think. Saves re-doing the imaeges

okay i setup another SP3 image with the CSE installed and i still cant get them to work.....any ideas?

They can be installed from WSUS but need xmllite installed on the client first.

 

It should be installed by either SP3 or by IE7, but I haven't been able to verify it on some of my SP2 machines yet as some machines say that the CSE is Not Applicable (since I'm looking to do something fairly similar to you come the new server install).
