f21970 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 OK. Exchange 2007 is now installed, and all is working great through OWA. I'm now struggling with Exchange client - we're using 2003 here. My problems consist of: 1. I've installed on a PC, copied to default profile and allocated a PRF file, but the damn thing won't work because of the .pst file. I've tied down the C:\ drives on the PC's so users can't install anything to them, and I can't figure out how to stop exchange trying to create a .pst file. Even if I could create it somewhere else - e.g. their N:\ drive - that would be progress, and I installed the Outlook ADM into AD and set the location of the pst as N:\, but nothing. 2. Logged in as an administrator, when I try to configure the outlook client, it asks for a username/password. Whatever I give it, it won't authenticate. I've tried the username both with and without domain. Please help - I haven't installed Exchange since 5.5, and have never done it on a restricted network, only in a corporate environment, and am struggling!!!
EduTech Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Our's setup with no problems, take a look at this save me typing it all out Configuring Outlook 2007 with Exchange Server 2007 http://www.lse.ac.uk/itservices/remote/email/ol2007/ol2007.htm James.
f21970 Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) We're using Outlook 2003. Really good site you've referred me to though. Thanks - I'll have a good read through this and see if anything helps! Edited July 10, 2009 by f21970
f21970 Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 OK. I've read lots now about .pst files etc., and I'm getting convinced that I'm stuck with just running OWA. Anyone got any different info??
Dos_Box Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Why would you want them to have the Outlook fat client 'roaming' with them? It takes time to setup, configure and download every time they switch work stations and TBH, OWA 2007 is better than Outlook 2003 and offers instant access, drag and drop +all the usual Outlook toys. Staff laptops yes, pupils no. 1

Use office group policy files to disable auto archive and cached accounts (disable cached accounts in the prf files too), you can also block pst files from being used with it. 1
