Importing mp4 files into Adobe Premiere Elements 4

I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 4 here and am having problems when importing mp4 files. They jump and skip, Flicker Green every now and then and generally just flip out on me.

 

Does anyone know what's the problem here and whether there's any specific settings i need to tweak within APE to get it to work properly?

cant you use handbrake to convert the mp4 into another format that you know works with that application ie avi or mpeg2 or something else

Yes i've encouterd that problem, i converted the .mp4 to a uncompressed .avi them premiere will play nicely with it

I recommended this also to the teacher but is not a popular option so am looking to see if APE can be configured to preview these correctly in it's current format.

 

What doesn't help is that these files apparently preview fine on the teachers home computer so can't just say it's the only way!!

Not a permissions thing is it ?

The computers have no security currently set to them so don't think it's an issue however with limited knowledge of APE i'm at a bit of a loss atm

play around with hardware acceleration and also ensure latest version of direct x is installed and any codecs you can get installed that may help ie from the codec project

I've played around with this already.

 

The files play fine on their own...They only behave like this when imported into APE. I've looked through the preferences but cannot find anything that makes a difference here

The playback of certain video in premiere depends greatly on which codecs you have installed on a the machine. It will play fine in vlc or windows media player but in Premiere you will get problems unless the right codec is installed and finding that right codec may be a problem. You should have a look at the offical abode forums for others who are having this problem. I've had a look and it mostly seems to be an issue with the speed of the machine you are editing with. Cheers for the replies.

 

I've packaged up and deployed the specific Samsung codec that's required to play the sumsung mp4 files but this isn't playing ball.

 

I've found some threads on the Adobe forums that suggest mp4 really isn't the format of choice to import directly into APE and should convert to a more friendly format as i first recommended to the teacher originally and as some of you mentioned above.

 

I just needed some advice other than my own to put a stronger argument across to this teacher

I already have the ffdshow codec pack and 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0 codec installed on these computers but still the same.
