Xenserver 5.5 with Sun Storage 7110 backup?

What is the best way to backup the Xenserver VM's that will be hosted on our 7110 SAN, can they be exported to an external HD from Xencenter and then restored in the event of the SAN failing or is there a more elegant solution?

I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I've been playing with Quorumsoft's Nimbus, which can backup/restore Xen VMs, and you could set your storage location to be any iSCSI or windows share. Its still in beta, but works pretty well for me.
