sparkeh Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Does anybody use FOG quick image with a machine that requires kernel arguments? Got a machine that requires acpi=none irqpoll and works fine when upload/deployment is launched from web GUI but fails when launched from PXE menu. It appears not to use the kernel arguments. Can anybody verify/disprove?
Geoff Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 that's correct. When you do a 'quick image' the default kernel is used with no special arguments. When you do a full upload job, a special pxe boot configuration is built from scratch for the machine(s) in question. 1
sparkeh Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 Thanks Geoff. Kinda reduces its usefulness perhaps? Wouldn't be that difficult to retrieve the kernel argument would it?
Arcath Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 it would, the PXE menu is really GRUB, so when you press enter there is no way to get the kernel arguments untill after the os has booted 1
Geoff Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Theres nothing stopping you altering the settings for the quick image boot menu option to something a little more failsafe (acpi=off for example, or use the kitchensink kernel).

Ok I guess I'm missing this, how do you set options for quick image?
Geoff Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 open up /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default in your favorite editor and scroll down to the section starting with 'LABEL fog.quickimage'. The 'kernel' and 'append' lines are what you should alter. Oh and if you use the web gui to redo the PXE boot menu, your changes will be over written unless you alter the relevant php file and add your alterations there. Unfortunately I have not got round to looking at that. 1
