Ex-MGSTech Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Hi all Has anyone ever come accross a device to remotely (via a mobile phone) reboot a device such as a router? Were are haveing router problems and its usually out of hours, this stops our VLE beiong available and access to webmail etc until we reboot the router (something we have to do on site) has anyone seen a GSM based remote power switch type of device anywhere? I know RS used to do a DTMF tone switch some years ago? Steve
MatthewL Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I have seen something that might be what you need, bear with us whilst I find the link.
MatthewL Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I have found this one, but I know there is something else out there, I will keep an eye out for you and let you know if I find it, it was cheaper than the one I have linked you to I think off the top of my head.
TechSupp Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Don't know if its that one but there was one reviewed on the radio a couple of months back where they demonstrated turning a mixer on via a text message but the real application was for situations just as you want. It was demonstrated on the Chris Evans radio 2 show bussiness slot.
Mcb Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Have a look at this: SeNd Technology Ltd - "TranSceNding the Boundaries" It can switch anthing by just ringing the number or sending a SMS to the SIM card number within. Just wire the main supply through its relay contacts. Its from | SeNd Technology Ltd | "Are you getting the Message?" |.
alexo2099 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Hello! Here is such device GSM-rebooter i am working for this company manufacturing this device Regards, Alex
john1903 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 The GSM remote control mains power switch that you are looking for can be found by searching for GSM-AUTO in Google and you can download the instruction manual here
plexer Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Why not just get a digital plug in timer and then set it for an off period of 5 minutes every night? Ben
justgates Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Hi all Has anyone ever come accross a device to remotely (via a mobile phone) reboot a device such as a router? I know RS used to do a DTMF tone switch some years ago? Steve There is a new GSM-SWITCH for remotely rebooting servers that also has a Radio Control built in so you can Reboot the server by GSM-or Radio and the GSM-SWITCH has a Battery Back Up and will send you a text alert if the Main Power Supply goes down. The GSM-Switch is a new product and comes with its own power supply
Ric_ Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Would it not be better to replace the router or repair the cause of hte lock ups?
john1903 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Here is a really simple rebooter just plug it into a mains outlet, then plug the router into it, to reboot send it an SMS text message. GSM Remote Control AC Power Switch
Ex-MGSTech Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Finally found what I was after http://cpc.farnell.com/tekview/irps1363/gsm-power-socket-tekview-irps1363/dp/TE0692241?Ntt=TE0692241 Steve
m25man Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I've got one of those... a supplier gave it to me to test and Ive been trying to find a use for it? The immediate problem I found was trying to locate a SIM plan to make it economically viable. I'm still looking for a SMS SIM only plan if there is such a thing.
Arthur Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 The immediate problem I found was trying to locate a SIM plan to make it economically viable. It's a shame that power socket doesn't work with Three SIMs, otherwise you could have used Samba Mobile. To top up you simply watch adverts on their website.

swabe Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 If you want to just re-boot a server, why not use an Ethernet Power Switch. Such as Power Control Category Nice and simple. No SIM to worry about.

No SIM to worry about. Without a SIM how would you connect? As it was for when a router wasn't working, thus no internet connection into it Steve
