Leopard inside a VM using VMWare Workstation

I Don't know if it is possible, but can you run Leopard as a VM inside VMware Workstation? i want to have a look at it before the teachers get there imac from the tesco for schools thing, as i know after the kids have been let loose on the thing it will end up that we will have to fix it. even though we said before they started collecting vouchers that we would support it!! plus i have never used one apart from fiddling and want to see what all the hype is about!!

 

so is it possible?

Yes, its possible.... Although I've never got VMware tools working with it, so its not the fastest. Never ran on AMD cpu either (well hung forever). Nor have I built this from scratch myself you can find a complete version from somewhere, but theres some info here on howto build it:

Not for any official use and unsupported, but possible.

As above its possible, but afaik the EULA only allows you to run it on Apple hardware so the school will have to give you one of the new macs, damb Apple

Thats using a slightly err "modified" image so would not be for use in a school.

 

Plus its so slow and couldn't be used to do anything useful and the fact it has no 3d or 2d acceleration support means its useless for graphics apps. I believe that apple have no interest in supporting Virtualisation of their OS at the moment probably due to the fact that I could see a lot of people bypassing the "No Activation" policy on their software!! Although it would be interesting to see where that leaves the company after that!

Yes, it's possible but its not the fastest, I have a core i7(at home) and it's still a lil bit slow but there are unofficial vmware tweaks you can use to speed it up.

I did the this when I needed to write the documentation for remote access on mac's for our staff.

yeah i only want a basic idea of how it works rather then learning on the machine when the teachers pupils brake it! i will give it a go and see what happens!!!
