dhicks Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Just setting up our virtual servers now andam wondering if Xenserver Essentials is worth it. What, pay money for virtualisation? You can just go and download a copy of CentOS and use the virtualisation built in to that. -- David Hicks
Ric_ Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I bought it when it was XenServer Enterprise and it was about £1100 per server. I think the price has dropped a little now - my licenses automagically converted into Essentials licenses and my Subscription Advantage has been extended to 3 years for free. Bargain! I think that the extra features are well worth it - live migration is ace! You also get workload balancing now.
Soulfish Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 We bought XenServer Enterprise just before Essentials came out for around £1100/server. Unfortunately we couldn't wait for the Essentials pricing to be released due to having to spend excess budget before the end of the tax year! Trying to convince sales people that they could still sell me Citrix XenServer Enterprise, even after telling them that Citrix had told me it was still for sale, was an uphill struggle For our licenses we used the TI Group. Be interesting to know who everyone else uses for Citrix licenses
Butuz Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Can someone PM me the per server price of Xen essentials to? It's hard to find out this kind of information without getting in to a lengthy unneeded discussion with a sales rep. Butuz
