GaryCantley Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Morning all, I visit a local Primary school each Wednesday morning to look after PC problems. I am more of an engineer than Server specialist. This morning I arrived and was told that staff can view but not write to the Public folder. Permissions are "Everyone Full Control". Security is: Admin/Domain Admin/Staff - Full Control Everyone - Read and Execute. The school is using Server 2k3 and Win XP Pro clients. Any thoughts please? Thanks Gary
p858snake Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Ensure the staff havn't magically been droped out of their groups. and are they NTFS folder permissions or Share Permissions?
GaryCantley Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Thanks for the reply. All staff are still in the STAFF group and permission are share permissions.
gibbo_ap Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 dont know why but i would try to unshare re share with different name etc do it user specific for a test then by usertype.
elsiegee40 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Go to the Security Tab of Properties and click on the Advanced Button Choose the Effective Permissions tab and try out individual users and the Staff Group to see what's happening. It may be that while the Public folder has Full Control, the sub-folders are not inheriting permissions... you may well see the magic words on permissions for the sub-folders!
ricki Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Also check the time on the client machine is within that whats on the server. If they are more than 5 mins out kerberos will not work. Also try rebooting the client machine. Richard
enjay Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 You need to set share and folder permissions, looks like you only have share permissions done.
