Ok, I am really genuinely stuck on choosing my next upgrade. I like the look of the i-phone however the topic is so torn between complete fans and haters.

 

I really need a smartphone with all the gadgets.. Google maps, email which I can hook up to my gmail account..Video play , Full MMS support. a fairly alright camera... Support for games and support for me changing the theme backgrounds etc as I get bored quick.. It has to be slick, stylish and small enough to keep in your pocket without it making you look like you have a small copy of the Oxford dictionary with you. :D

 

Links to your recomendations would be most appreciated.

There is only one answer - HTC Touch HD. 'tis the phone of the Gods.

 

You just have to look at the iPhone specs to see it's just designed to keep fanboys happy.

 

Touch HD has glorious screen (bigger than iPhone), Google Maps, Push e-mail, 5MP camera, basically everything you could want in a phone.

Got it free on £35.

 

Comes with 8GB MicroSD, will take a 16GB card. Gives more freedom than built in, non expandable, storage.

As you use gmail, the G1 might be nice I got mine free @ £30 a month with unlimited data+texts & 800 mins of calls.

 

G2 looks to be nice but the got rid of the qwerty keyboard which put me off.

Orange (PAC'd number over from O2 as O2 refuse to stock phones better than the iPhone so as not to upset Apple). Seems Orange have gotten rid of it from their website though, can still get it from CPW ( HTC Touch HD on Dolphin, £35, 600 minutes, unlimited txt, 18 months - The Carphone Warehouse ), though they're charging about £98 for the phone now, should think you can haggle them down though. Still cheaper than an iPhone!

iTunes will only work with Apple products (or the Palm Pre until Apple fix that loophole!), WMP will sync the HTC Touch HD though. Fairly easy switching, took me all of 20 minutes to rip all my music off my iPod, get it organised properly, and uploaded to the TouchHD.

I already have mine all sorted in iTunes on OS X and WMP is a windows thing and I want to steer clear of windows would be good if someone could post back to let me know once the iTunes apple loop hole has been fixed but until then think I will stick with iPhone

 

unless you know of a way around that ? Windows obviously does not read HFS+ and I dont really want to use virtual machines etc for a phone.

Have to say my sis just got one and I was underwhelmed. Didn't have a long play but it just didn't feel all that & I'm also all ready fed up of her randomly phoning me from her bag or the phone answering in her bag. Not sure if that is just her settings or the phone but I haven't had that problme from someone since the old nokias! Added to that I am very wary of WM now, although I have been hearing that 6 is much better.

 

I do have to say that the iPhone Killers review reads really badly, as in not much of a review more like a Touch fan comparing.

Windows can read and write to OS X partitions with a little bit of software: MacDrive

 

OS X can also read and write to NTFS partitions with a little bit of software: Macfuse and NTFS 3-G. You only need to download NTFS-3G though as it has Macfuse bundled with it.

Well I'm a hard man to please with gadgets and I'm impressed. Sounds like she's not putting the keypad lock on, though to be fair, did take me a bit to work out how to engage it! Not sure on formats off the top of my head, but haven't had to convert anything... yet! Edited by Diello

Had that a while ago and it worked fine for a while but then it just starting saying that my partitions were corrupt and never worked correctly for me even after fresh install of xp and updates to sp2.

 

Ran checks on OS X and also booted up from the os x installation media both of which using disk util reported no errors like what mac disk did so I have never used it again.

Same here and although the HTC Touch HD looks nice I am still not keen on the HTC Touch HD OS and hence why I got the iphone - and yes I know about the iphone 3G S but am still waiting for the next one to come out as am hoping they will upgrade it again with some more goodies.

Thanks for the suggestion anywho - just I dont want my music / itunes etc getting corrupt and obviously OS X does not truely support NTFS and FAT32 does not support over 4gb so a bit knackered on that front - I think there is something 3G or some addon like fuse that you can install for NTFS read / write capability but not sure what that would be like so didnt want to risk it.
