speckytecky Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Can anyone give feedback about the PARS Modular server please PARS Technology - Product Overview Any good. Easy to use? good value for money etc.
PeterW Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 It is an Intel server system aimed at the SMB space, there is more info including a product test drive here Intel® Modular Server based on Intel® Multi-Flex Technology. If you were considering this product I would certainly hold out for the Xeon 5500 (Nehalem-EP) compute modules. Also be aware there is no way to upgrade this to 10GbE in the future you would be stuck with bonding 1GbE links. 1
Kitkatninja Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 We had a play around with it a few weeks back and found it relatively easy. Added to that, compared with alot of blade systems, it was alot cheaper. I believe with the "internal SAN" the maximum you can have is 4.2TB raw, which after Raid 3 brings it down to about 3TB, but you can add the Promise storage unit with up to 12TB. -Ken 1
lunaman124 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 All..we've purchased such Modular Server from Intel some time ago. We have ~ 350 user connected to the system and using MSFT Essential Business Server. According to our reseller, Intel just validated the 500GB SAS 2,5" HDD from Seagate, which gives us/you a maximum or 7TB storage capacity. Given the space needed for the stripe sets (Raid 5) it would still give you 6TB raw data capacity. We believe this is way enought to cover our demand until 750GB/1TB HDD will become available re GB uplinks: the mid plane in the Modular Server is already 10GB capable---so our reseller would doubth that Intel isn't going to deliver a 10GB Eth switch if it becomes mainstream The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person's determination."[/size] 1
Kitkatninja Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 If you can wait about a month, we may be getting it, so we can tell you first hand what it's like. Just going to prices, quotes and specs -Ken 1
PeterW Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 re GB uplinks: the mid plane in the Modular Server is already 10GB capable It is not I'm afraid, but you can have upto 4x GB ports per compute module if you use the mezz cards.
