plexer Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Well after all the rain and flooding yesterday I'm a bit concerned. Currently all of my servers are pedestal and sit about an inch off the floor on a piece of worktop. I'm now thinking I should move them on to the top of the bench out of harms way. Trouble is there's no way I can move the smart-ups 5000 up there so I was thinking about sitting it inside a large flat bottomed plastic box. Can anyone see a problem with that? Ben
DAckroyd Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 that should be fine as a short term thing but I would look into something a bit more perminant also - if you are close to a server upgrade then looking at rack mountable and put them higher up in the cab for water clearance possibly?

Ben You want to put your UPS in a large water carrier.... ...in a room with known water leaks... ....no should be fine

TNE Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Depending on the size of container it may cause the ambient temperature to rise which can affect battery life and also check minimum gaps required especially to ventilation grills.

pete Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Get site staff to knock up a plinth to hold the ups's (upi?) 6 inches off the ground? Most networking/comms/office supply catalogues have heavy duty meccano-style shelves that you can build to whatever height you choose.
