Deleting behaviour records

We have been using SIMs since 2007 and during the first year teachers were encouraged to use the behaviour management module. This was dropped in 2008/09 when we purchased the Sleuth system. We are now going back to SIMs as we are currently setting up out VLE and on line reporting. The problem is that we have about 1700 old behaviour records in SIMs. As I don't want to delete these one by one or ask teachers to edit their sometimes exotic and individual comments I was wondering if there is any safe way of bulk deleting these records.

I doubt it!

Here's an idea. Go to Focus -> Behaviour Management -> Maintain behaviour incidents.

You can :-

• click on the delete button repeatedly
  
• employ someone to click on the delete button repeatedly
  
• use the Ctrl+D keyboard shortcut
  
• use a script to send the Ctrl+D keyboard shortcut
  

Pressing Ctrl+D should work pretty well, but in between you have to press left and then enter.

So a script would be best if the timing works okay, or you do it when the system is not busy and the computer responds quick.

 

I've got a little vbscript that can be easily doctored to do what you want and set to the number of times you want it to repeat. Only catch is that it wont allow a delete if a linked detention has had an attended mark placed in it!

 

So first you have to use the same script on the detentions but again every time it halts you have to go in and change the attended for the student to not attended. hopefully you didn't use the detentions feature.....

 

to use the script you need to have high permissions on the local machine, sometimes have to lower IE security and need to have sims open on the correct screen with the top record highlighted. then just put this script on the desktop or local C drive and double click. you may need to change the timings if your system responds slowly.

Why do you want to delete the Behaviour Incidents when you can set a date in SLG from which you wish the Behaviour Incidents to be viewed?

Now that sounds like a much better plan!

You can probably import the stuff from sleuth can't you, so you don't lose data ....? or would that be costly?

Don't forget that if you set a date in SLG that the records are still in SIMS and SLG can act as a taster for parents to ask what other data you have recorded on their children, which they're entitled to see.

Better to have it correct if you're not happy with the data
