Touch Pad cursor speed resetting.

Hello All,

 

Has anybody come across this problem before?

 

Every time I reboot my laptop my laptop reverts to the default touchpad cursor speed - I have to reset it each time through control panel to a usable speed.

 

When at my desk I use a wireless mouse that doesn't need the speed resetting (uses Logitech SetPoint software).

 

The touchpad drivers are Synaptic and I have the latest drivers.

 

I a using Windows 7, but I had the same problem in Windows Vista.

 

The registry key that changes when you set the cursor speed in control panel is:

 

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse] "MouseSensitivity"="20"

 

The default value is ="0" and ="20" is the fastest setting. Thought about adding the value at log on via a script but this doesn't seem to work.

 

Any other thought on why this is happening or how I can resolve it?

Try uninstalling the Synaptic driver/software as XP upwards has its own driver for controlling the mouse pad. You may have better luck with this.

But he would almost certainly lose some functionality. Such as the use of a scrolling area on the trackpad.

This is true, the native windows driver doesn't support the scroll areas on the trackpad.

 

I also tried removing the Logitech Setpoint software to see if that was having any adverse affect - but it wasn't.

 

Strange...

Have a look in the BIOS. There may be a setting in there that resets it. Am thinking this as my laptop has a setting to automatically turn on the wifi even if I have turned it off. Unlikely for a touchpad but at least rule that out.

Have you tried creating a secondary user, which would create a new user profile? This problem may be profile related possibly.

There are 3 profiles and they all suffer the same problem - I will try to create a new one and report back.
