Hi guys,

I have a server approx. 140 gig HDD. Using backup Exec 12.5, it takes two tapes to backup (the tapes are 200 uncompressed and 500 compressed). Have I missed something here, where does the extra 60 gig go?

Friday Full Backups are:

o Full - Using archive bit (reset archive bit)

o Verify after backup completes (ticked/checked)

o Compression: Hardware (if available, otherwise software)

Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

In my experience compression rate will suck unless you are only storing word docs etc. Mucis files, files and other files will not compress.

in the device and media section of the job do you have overwrite media or append to media. Also what are you media set properties, do you have overwrite protection on and append period. Edited by JOrdan01070

May be a silly question but you're not doing incremental backups during the week onto the same tapes are you? If so and you have a no-overwrite policy for 2 weeks, then this could be the cause of the "full" tapes.

I backup the Drives and the shared folders within this drive (such as pupils' work), and it's not an exchange server.

I'm using the overwrite media.

The full backups are being done on seperate tapes than the daily differential backups.

I've set the overwrite protection for a month for the full backups (however, when I run the backups the disk I'm using is set back to scratch for testing purposes).

Thanks,
