GPO Preferences for Search Facility

[a_d_atkinson]

I'm Head of ICT in a small school and for the new OCR Nationals work the student have to have the ability to search for files.

The previous HoD had this locked down in the GPO but I haven't got the foggiest how to get it back. Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers.

Changed the first two but with no luck. I now have the search button but it does nothing. Search hasn't appeared in the start menu. When I ctrl+f I get "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions put in place by your network administrator". Will it be overiden with another setting?

It's possible.

If you're using the Group Policy Management Console, you can run a results wizard and obtain an overview of all the policies that were last applied when x user logged on - it'll let you choose a remote PC and enumerate the users cached on that PC to run the results against.

You can also use the modelling wizard to see if changes you make will apply.

You can also see then which policy object applied the restriction as well. It's a very useful tool

Also reset the profile as that can cause some weirdness with XP GPO settings and reverting.

I'll be honest gents and say this is way over my head. Will have to pay to get someone in I reckon.
