Changed the first two but with no luck. I now have the search button but it does nothing. Search hasn't appeared in the start menu. When I ctrl+f I get "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions put in place by your network administrator". Will it be overiden with another setting?

I'm Head of ICT in a small school and for the new OCR Nationals work the student have to have the ability to search for files. The previous HoD had this locked down in the GPO but I haven't got the foggiest how to get it back. Does anyone have any ideas? Cheers.

I am by no means a technical expert on these things but currently students in our active directory are only referred to by user name (stu0XXXX). We've started using ABTutor which is brilliant but I have to request the kids name every time I use it to identify who is on what machine. I have full class lists in excel with usernames and they can happily be exported to a csv file. Is there a quick fix to amend the current users with Forename and Surname information? Cheers

I'm having problems attempting to install this on an old sql server we're using. I'm not a techie so apologies if this makes no sense. I've installed xampp and apache seems to be running fine. I've followed the google code instructions for installing crbs under windows and everythign seems ok until I get to the install page. I navigate to http://localhost/crbs and get the install window. When I type in all details and try to install I get An Error Was Encountered Error Number: 1364 Field 'name' doesn't have a default value INSERT INTO school (school_id) VALUES (0) If I then reload the url I get a login screen where my username and password do not work and i'm hit with these A PHP Error was encountered Severity: Notice Message: Trying to get property of non-object Filename: controllers/login.php Line Number: 23 and A PHP Error was encountered Severity: Notice Message: Trying to get property of non-object Filename: controllers/login.php Line Number: 35 Anyone able to give me a hand? I'm trying to do this blind a bit while teaching so if any help can be very slow and with short words that would be great

To be honest we've got a funny arrangement. Previous HoD was in charge of techie and teaching side of technology and after his retirement it's left my (ICT HoD) and two technicians. Strictly speaking nobody is in charge of the techie side! I've not looked into thin client at all to be honest but from a quick read up it sounds great and would suit our needs in terms of expanding. Much more chance of upgrading the servers every few years rather than a whole suit of machines. Where can I go for an absolute numpties guide to setting the system up and what I need?

Thanks for all the replies folks. Thin client sounds like a plan but we're a bit short on manpower for getting the whole system setup. I reckon second user is probably the best bet. Hopefully once we're out of the deficit spending will go back to normal again. Re: monitors. I've got no preference for them being wide or 5:4. It was jsut all that seemed available when looking at new systems. Cheers

My school is currently working it's way out of a massive deficit and spending in ICT has been practically non existent. We have two full time ICT suites. One runs P4s and XP and jsut about meets our needs. The other is over 10 years old and is running Celeron 300s with 64Mb Ram and Win 98. The room is getting to be impossible to teach in, certainly any multimedia is out of the question. Through some donations and other funding we have got together £4500 for ICT equipment and I'm trying to see if I can stretch it to replace the Win98 room. Currently I can just about make it by building the boxes myself. Has anyone got any other ideas for some cheap boxes? Spec needs to be: 17" Wide TFT Decent processor 1Gb Ram No optical drive circa 80Gb HD Cheers for your help Forgot to mention I'm looking for 22 machines.
