J Events and templates

I think I read somewhere here about conflicts with JEvents Calendar and templates. I want to use the colorful template from Themebase but it will not allow the calendar editor to open from the front end. I switch to another template and it's OK.

 

The template uses template.css which was referred to in another thread, but I couldn't resolve the conflicts (not clever enough). Any help gratefully received.
