Hi all

I'm having some problems with my internet connections recently.

The download speed is generally around 1-2 mbs but the upload is attrocious.

Anything from 0 to around 30kbs. It sometimes goes higher and went up to 298kbs for about 30 seconds today.

My ISP is Pipex and we have Inty as an exoserver sitting in the middle doing our email and web filtering.

I have spoken to both and neither can seem to offer any solution. Although there was a recognisable problem on the line yesterday.

The line should be a 10mb ADSL line.

The router is a generic one in the Inty exoserver.

Any suggestions as to something I can be checking from my side that could improve the upload speeds.

I have put a new filter in and adjusted the web caching but it is still erratic.

Oh, there's a PCI ADSL modem in the Inty box?

Had it been a router I'd have suggested logging into it to check the line stats to identify the sync speed (downstream/upstream) to see whether it's a problem with the sync to the exchange or the throughput over the internet.

tbh if you knew if you need login details for your isp adsl connection you could just take one in from home and plug it and see how it goes. You would be offline for a short time but its good for a test.

Whats your actual supposid upstream sync speed?

If you have say 768kbps then that means about 50-70KB a sec upload rate

It's the Inty box.

We have two of them, one for the staff, and one for the student network.

When we go to speedtest.net and compare the two networks (when there is nobody logged on).

We get about 6mb down and 5.5mb up on the staff network, and 6mb down and anything from 100k-2.5mb up, always significantly worse upload on the student inty.

The difference between the two machines, is the staff one is last years model and runs with no authentication, whereas the student one is the previous year, and it has the Webdefender/n2h2 filtering running.

This connection we have is supposed to be 10mb SDSL.

When I test via a server that bypasses both these servers, it is usually (slightly) faster than the Staff connection.
