I was wondering if anyone had used CA Threat Manager and would recommend upgrading from Sophos?

(the price is much better than sophos!)

We use CA antivirus which is the cut down version of threat manager. I wanted to upgrade to threat manager this year but the budget has been cut down to nothing.

We use it here, I have not used Sophos though so have no basis of comparison. It seems to deal with viruses alright but it is rather resourse heavy and no MSI deployment that I have been able to find.

I must have another look, we get it in a repackaged form from our MoE so it may be burried deeper than I checked.

Has anyone tried this yet? I'm possibly doing the same as the OP, but if it's going to be a complete resource hog I would rather avoid.

 

Misco who are the previous providers of Sophos here are trying to get us to change over as they've fallen out and we've been offered just under £12 a licence for 3 years for this product.

 

Anyone used it yet?

just bought CA Threat manager from Misco for 5.7k for 1000 licenses

 

so cheap compared to what i could find from Sophos. the setup it more confusing however i believe its more of an enterprise product compared to sophos.

Ah nice one, how are you finding it for installing across the network? Does it work with XP and Vista? any problems yet?

Have been using it in various versions on XP and Vista for ages. The latest one has a stupid web interface but handles itself alright. It is slightly less resource hungry now thanks to some updates. The x64 version does not include pestpatrol - the anti malware component yet but it does work on Windows 7 as well.

 

From a couple of technet broadcasts that I have seen on Vista imaging, CA Antivirus is what Microsoft used to use throughout on their base image. I imagine that they use forfront now but still interesting to know.

 

In Vista background scanning (scheduled whole machine jobs) - like with any AV - trashes performance on lower spec machines but this is common over all the AV software I have tried it with. I preffer it to NOD32 as it does not attempt to block all network connectivity for fun.
