indiegirl Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Why is it that I have a 865kb Adobe file, yet when I send it to print, it's suddenly 75mb? Is this to do with the compression that Adobe uses? Does it treat any non-text as a picture? Just a random Q....
sahmeepee Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 We had a similar case with a 6th former who sent a 20MB document to print. The spool file had reached 600MB by the time we killed it. The lesson being: make sure your print spool folder isn't on the c:\ drive of your print server or things will start to fall over.
NetworkGeezer Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I am wondering if Windows renders the complete print image into the spool file for GDI printers. For PS and PCL printers the processor in the printer itelf will share some of the burden.
Irazmus Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 I had that happen on my old admin/SIMS server, the spooler ate every spare byte on the C:\ drive. The look on the Sims manager's face when I told her she'd just crashed SIMS with a PDF was a classic. At least it helped prove the point of why it needed replacing. IIRC it was the SIMS manual that she was trying to print
