Internet Explorer (7) rejecting correct Moodle logins

Hi,

 

We're running Moodle 1.9 on Ubuntu server and using LDAP authentication from CC3 ActiveDirectory.

 

I never have any login problems with firefox but Internet Explorer 7 often rejects correct logins. Sometimes the user gets in after repeated attempts but it is often quicker to restart Internet Explorer.

 

Has anyone got any ideas where to start looking for a solution to this?

No idea what the technicalities behind our system are (apart from running IE6), but I've often experienced the same problem in the classroom.

 

It seemed to happen most often if students entered their password and then hit 'Enter' rather than clicking the 'login' button. Once it had happened the second try page was sometimes similarly unco-operative, so I send them back to the main page to put their details in again and warn them to click the 'Login' button - it usually does the trick, although it beats me as to why!

Do you have a server caching anything on site?

sorry I didn't see your post. Yes, we do have an ISA server as a proxy and all IE requests go through it whereas Firefox doesn't by default. This would explain the pattern. I don't suppose you could suggest what to switch off to avoid the problem?

1. I'd check the security settings in IE7, make sure that cookies are actually being allowed.

 

Log out of Moodle clear your cookies and try and login, try adjusting the security settings to low or medium to see if this helps.

 

2. You may want to consider changing the login method from cookies to database sessions?
