EduTech Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Just thought i would post this before i hit the pillow, if you read my thread a few days ago regarding the issue where my laptop likes the BSOD on me and i thought it could be down to IE8, but it appeard to be something else. anyway decided to scrap vista x64 and install w7 RC. Fresh Build installed no problems at all, drivers installed no errors Enabled my Intel Virtulisation Technology in the Bios so i can Virtualise machines on my laptop, installed MS Virtual PC and Virtual Windows XP both downloaded fresh from the Microsoft Site. Installed no problem, but when i go to start the Virtual Windows XP, i follow the setup and then once completed and it goes to launch the virtual machine i get an error telling me that virtulisation is not enabled in the BIOS, yet i know for a fact it is i double checked restarted and checked my BIOS Config just incase and it is all setup correctly. Has anyone else found this problem? or is it just me Hardware: Dell Studio 17 Windows 7: x64 Anyone got any ideas? Cheers James.

EduTech Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Which Intel CPUs Support XP Mode Virtualization? - Tom's Hardware This site could be worth a look see. EduTech Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 OK, got home this evening Went straight to the BIOS everything the same as it was when i left it last night, settings all correct so booted into windows and it wanted to install some updates so did all of those, rebooted. Scratching my head, so thought right i am going to re-install windows 7 and try again but before i did that i run virtual xp one last time, and you never guess! setup password etc like last night, clicked finish and it started setting it up for the first time!! i dont understand what happend last night unless those updates contained something. Cheers for your replys though guys, i am sure this thread will help someone out who has the same problem but actually does not have a compatible processor. James.
kmount Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Did you install the required update before installing XP Mode?
EduTech Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Did you install the required update before installing XP Mode? What update was that mate ? If it something that has to be downloaded and installed before installing XP mode, then the answer is no as i did not download any updates before installing virtual pc and xp mode. James.
kmount Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Yes, there's an update for Virtual PC you're supposed to install prior to XP! Maybe that's what happened.
EduTech Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Yeah most probably owell it's all working now time to have a play
kmount Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I could be wrong of course! 64Bit Virtual PC Beta And then the actual installation itself: 64Bit XP Mode Beta I don't have a box to test but I wonder whether it would even install without the previous update/install being present. Gremlins
