Had a phone call last week about a free video conferencing service where you just pay for what you use which includes plasma screen and all the kit.

In the bottom it says, The above 'pay as you go' concept can be compared with a pay as you go mobile phone solution' but above it it says that there is a Admin Fee on £99 per month :) Can't remember the past time my pay as you go phone company asked me to sign a contract. They also charge a £500 installation fee which I find a little steep.

Won't use it but thought it was funny that its free except the initial £600 you have to find.

What sort of kit were they talking about? ie. Polycom? Aethra? Large room size? Single person size?

Just trying to figure out if it is actually a good deal or not :p

For £500 (or maybe a tad over) you could get a cheap widescreen TV or screen, a cheap PC and a decent webcam and use Skype. Bang, one dedicated video conferencing suite.

And if you took into account the cost of running it for a year, you'd have £1700 to spend on kit.

For that I reckon you could buy two camcorders, tripod mounts, a 120mhz refresh rate screen and some shutter glasses and do 3D video conferencing.
