Yes, IT sales departments have discovered how they can find out what goes on in the evil minds of the likes of us system managers and technicians! HOW?

 

By reading EDUGEEK of course, that's how!

 

Received an email this morning from Tim Okeefe from A2Z Computers who offered his services and advice on the thin client front because he had read I was looking into it on here!

Has anyone else been approached in this manner from A2Z or another supplier? I'll give it to TIM, he's done his home work.

Good. They can buy some advertising space once we've finished the module. It'll halp to pay for the dedicated server we need.

That seems a very good idea Dos_box we can e-mail all the it suppliers and ring them as they do us and ask them if they are interested in advertising their wares. We can then vet them from all the members who have dealings with them. They then might get a taste of their own medicine hehe

Oh ... and the fact that when I was accosted by them at BETT I had a badge saying EduGeek on (partly because I didn't want them to get the name of the school)

Ok, ok...i'll fess up...it was actually me that pointed Tim towards Edugeek as we were chatting on the phone the other day and I was commenting on the FITS framework and the draft becta infrastructure documents.

 

So please be kind and kindly ensure that the bricks are encased in bubble wrap before you throw them at me!

Well, if suppliers find our site useful, they could also donate prizes for competitions like Oliis Solutions, 1st Technologies and others have in the past.

OK, hands up, I'm the salesperson in question. The fact is I'm a very lazy salesman who doesn't like making cold calls as much as you don't like receiving them. As such if I can find out if somebody is looking at implementing a project then I'd rather talk about it with them whilst it's relevant.

 

Not a tactic my manager would endorse but it's worked for me for 2 years!

 

I do see the forum as a potential arena for suppliers and buyers to get their heads together, as well as an opportunity for us suppliers to see what really goes on in an IT dept. As such if the administrators would like to generate some income for the BeTT show or to buy themselves a new server then I'm willing (as are A2Z as a company) to come to an arrangement for a commission structure to be set up for sales generated via EduGeek. If this sounds good then please feel free to contact me

 

 

And BTW, compliments on the site, I've already spent far too much work time reading forums and not actually doing any work...
