Teachers Laptops and Thin Clients?

Just thinking ahead here, the situation doesn't actually exist here yet, but I'm just wondering how everyone else would attack this.

 

Basically, we'll be having a Citrix based thin client system implemented within the next year or so. I was wondering what the best thing to do about the teachers laptops is (if anything)?

 

Obviously, configuring them as thin clients is a waste as they will lose their mobility (although, out of interest, how well does Citrix hold up over WiFi?). This defeats the object of having a laptop in the first place!

 

I do suspect that teachers will want to access somehow, so how does one acomplish this? Has anyone done anything along these lines? Ric I suspect?

It would be fine to keep the laptops as they are but install Citrix Program neighborhood, this way clients can access particular published Citrix apps without needing to install them - clearly they won't work when not connected to a network.

Citrix uses approx 20kb/s and works reasonably well over dialup so wireless isn't an issue

You can publish apps so that if you have an MIS implemented on the TS then you acitivate it that way.

 

Full desktop might be in order if the laptop is starting to show its age performance wise.
