Powerpoint file issue

I have got a file that wont open, it brings up the error "Powerpoint cant open the file represented by filepath\evidence template.ppt.

Does anyone know how to remove the full stop at the end of the ppt? You cant see the full stop when renaming the file and with the file extension visible, only when you try and open the file.

I doubt the fullstop is part of the filename, just as a sentence finisher.

I don't think the filename has got a . at the end...it is being added by the dialog box in Powerpoint.

 

My guesses would be:

1. The file is corrupted

2. It is from a newer version of Powerpoint.

3. It is not a Powerpoint file at all...I have seen cases where users have changed the extension think that the file would magically become a PP file

Think it's going to be restore job to be honest but that can wait until monday morning, the pub is beckoning
