birchanger Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 With public exams coming up we are looking at our arrangements for language listening exams. Normally we'd use the various PCs in the school. but with an increase in candidate numbers we'll struggle to accommodate all students while still maintaining a metre separation. So someone suggested using portable players, such as iPod Shuffles. Has anyone tried using portable devices for this purpose? Cah anyone recomend a device? They must have the ability to pause/rewind/ff etc.
alan-d Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 We are using laptops but if you don't have enough then something like this [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DEJ011S-CEQ-CD-Walkman/dp/B000NVWCWK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240409994&sr=1-1]Sony DEJ011S.CEQ CD Walkman: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo[/ame] should be ok. The exam is on a CD which is sealed until the day so you won't have much time to convert it to an MP3. Even less if your exams are the same as ours and start 0900 on a Monday
birchanger Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Thanks for that - I'll take a look. I understand that our audio arrives before time on cassette (really!) with MP3 promised next year. Possible because we do IB here.
SClarke Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Hi, I work mainly for the languages department at my school and I have been using a Coomber 6031 over a period of time to convert tapes to cds, then importing them as mp3s on computer and uploading to our servers and also our websites and streaming them. We also use Sandisk sansa mp3 players to enable pupils to listen back to them in class, at home, or for exams: http://regmedia.co.uk/2006/09/11/sandisk_sansa_m230.jpg though these are about £70 each, so not the cheapest, there is a newer variation on it for about £18: Buy SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 Player 1GB with FM Radio (Black) SDMX11R-1024K-E70 £17.89 - Oyyy.co.uk this might be cheaper than buying ipod shuffles and less fashionable, so hopefully less likely to be 1/2 inched Though this all depends on whether you have time beforehand to do all this:bolt: Hope this helps 1
K.C.Leblanc Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Buy SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 Player 1GB with FM Radio (Black) SDMX11R-1024K-E70 £17.89 - Oyyy.co.uk Only problem with the Sansa Clip is it has a built in Radio, probably not what you want if you're using it in lessons and I doubt they'd be permitted in exams. SHame really, I've got the 8GB version and it's excelent.
