Change an IE setting via GPO, but can't seem to find it

The setting is under Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Allow

active content to run in files on My Computer.

 

The only setting I see in the GPO that's close to that is "Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer."

 

Its all to do with some MLF software call'Voila' It installs locally but willnot run unless this setting is changed. Now the above setting can be done on the xp box when logged on as admin, but i want to be able to change this setting via gpo but can't find it anywhere.

To accomplish all this in Windows 2000 (Win2K), you can use Group Policy Objects (GPOs) that you link to your Active Directory (AD) domain or to organizational units (OUs) in your domain.

 

Editing GPOs

To begin, you need to edit a GPO. For instance, to define IE settings for all users in your domain, open Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click the root of the domain, and select Properties. Select the Group Policy tab and edit the Default Domain Policy GPO, which contains several settings that pertain to IE configuration. First, maneuver to User Configuration, Windows Settings, Internet Explorer Maintenance, as http://www.windowsitpro.com/Files/15/21282/Figure_01.gif shows. In this area you can edit the same configuration settings that you access in IE through the Tools, Internet Options menu. The difference is that Win2K automatically applies the policies you define here to all the applicable users in the domain—you don't need to configure each user separately. The Browser User Interface folder lets you customize IE’s title, animated bitmaps, logo, and tool bar buttons. The Connection folder lets you configure how IE reaches the Internet, including proxy server settings. The URLs folder lets you configure Favorites, define standard home and search pages, and specify channels.

thanks for the reply, not sure if we have our wires crossed. I have been editing GPO's for years, i know how to edit them but the setting that is in IE is not in the GPO.

 

I need to find out which one of the settings will do what i want as in my first post.

Yes tosca925, changing that damn setting is a bit of a holy grail at the moment. There is another thread about ActiveX already. There hasn't been a proper solution yet. Using Regmon to monitor changes in the registry when you alter the setting hsa thrown up inconsistent results for me. To be honest, we could probably do with an updated IE adm file from Microsoft which has ALL the settings in it.

tosca925 My apologies for missunderstanding the question but i did on my travels of the net last night come across something which escapes me at the mo to do with activeX and i think it is relevant to your question. Will try to locate it again.

Why not add the info into your own .adm template?

I've been trying to make my own adm, but can't find where in the registry the settings are stored.
