timbo343 Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Is it possible to add a second GC to exchange just incase exchange cannot see it for what ever reason? The reason why i ask is because, we are removing the server that exchange uses to talk to the domain and i cannot seem to add any more GCs to exchange even though i know for a fact that we have got 4 other GCs on the domain. Can anyone help? Tim
sjl Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 In not too sure i understand this question: - So you have four other Domain Controllers set to act as GCs on your domain - Correct? You are looking at decommissioning one of your domain controllers which is set as a GC - Correct? Also - is Exchange installed on a Domain Controller or is it on a member server? If you decommission your Domain Controller (also one of your GCs) then Exchange and exchange clients will just automatically look to the other GCs that exist on your network. Remember to decommission that DC properly too - here is a Microsoft Guide: - Decommissioning a Domain Controller: Active Directory Just be certain that you have those other GCs on the network and move any other fsmo roles before throwing your server through the top window!. Cheers, steve.

I'm not sure this is correct. ....but I also don't fully unerstand the question either, and wonder if it OP is correct in saying there are 4GC's on site! It sounds quite overkill for a school enviroment. I'm also thinking that if there have been historically 4GC's they will probably already be listed in Exchange anyway?
