tmcd35 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I need two A4 networked mono printers. They are for light office use, SEN and Maths. They are currently using HP LJ 4050's (I think). In recent months I've gone off HP a bit and was wondering which of the other major brands gets the thumbs up from fellow edugeekers? Cheers.
sted Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 dont go with canon lasers the install is a pain you cant just shove a dhcp reservation for them in and install the drivers you have to run the cd which installs software on the print server and finds the printers and enables networking. They worked ok in testing but a job that would of taken 10 mins for a hp took over an hour with pratting around trying to work out why i couldnt find them on the network 1
tmcd35 Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Never liked Lexmark in the past - based on their dreadful inkjet door stops, but have heard good reports on their laser printers. From my PCW () selling days I remember Brother/Samsung being ok. Was also looking at Xerox. Look quit sturdy bits of kit. Just wondering what you guy's and girls thought of these brands. Any positive/negative experiences? Any models to recommend? Or should I stop being silly and stick with HP? (I swear their build quality/customer service is not what it used to be)
gibbo_ap Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 we are currently going for a enterprise solution and getting rid of about 60 printers mostly HP some Knoica minolta will (if approved by the head) be advertising them here (if allowed by the mods) actually will this be allowed ... to advertise here? oh we had decided on Ricoh we did look at kyroceria due to their efficiency and price but had a great dead with infotec (ricoh sales division)

I recommend a Lexmark which takes the Number 1 cartridges........... and a copy of Norton 360..... or not. We used Lexmark lasers at our PCW store at the time, they were ok, but had issues with them so I cant really recomend them. Try to look at the cartridges as well as the printer as some of the HP's (1010 i think) are nearly as expensive as inkjets to run. Saying that the HP business inkjet series is really good value and is capable of printing in colour as well for the cost of a B+W laser.
Jamman960 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I've gone for Brothers in the past, mainly because the same models were availible year in year out although they've just started phasing them out for more expensive models or ones with lower yeild toners 1
