Could be a machine being plugged in by the kiddies with its firewall on. If the firewall is turned on in vista for example and set to "public" mode the machine name wont get broadcasted.

I was going to say I'd only ever seen it on workstations not joined to the domain but that would explain why! :) Nice one ZH.

 

Yeh thats another thing that causes it but after the machine joins usually the dhcp would add the name.
