pete Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Under *nixes, there's a file called .bash_history in your homedir, this contains all the commands you've entered at all terminals / command prompts until it reaches a predefined limit (it gets truncated beyond X lines, but that's user-configurable). This history is searchable, so if you've typed in a long and involved command a week ago, you can search and rerun it with a couple of keystrokes. This functionality is rather handy. I'm aware that on Windows you can search for commands entered in the current command-prompt, but that history is lost when that prompt is closed. Has anyone found a tool/add-on/replacement that provides this functionality? I had a play with powershell in the hope it had been included, but couldn't find it.
RabbieBurns Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 There is on, Ive used it before. I cant remember it off hand, gimme 2 mins Ill see if I can find it.
RabbieBurns Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 doskey doesnt keep the history between cmd sessions and reboots though does it?
Geoff Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 No it doesn't. But nothing else does either. You'd have to rip out and replace your command line interpreter with something like Take Command LE if you wanted that level of functionality. Take Command Product Information
RabbieBurns Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 There was something I used. Im just struggling to find it again. It was a 3rd party addon that wrote commands to a small file.
AngryTechnician Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I'd be very interested to know this too. In the meantime, since you've used bash before, you could always install Cygwin and... use bash.
