crtl + alt + delete login wallpaper

Hi, I have located the key that I needed change to set the wallpaper on the crtl-alt-delete login screen, and the image (yes it has to be a bitmap) is stored on the server.

 

The good thing is when I log-off the wallpaper is there, when I restart the computer or shut it down and turn back on, it not there till a user logs into the computer than logs off again.

 

I know if that I store it actually on the computer's HDD + linked there it be there when the computer is restarted or turned back on from shutdown.

 

I also know if we have a new pic, and move the old one to another location, with exactly the same name it gets replaced as soon user logs off if they had the old one there

 

I would like to know how to make it appear on screen when the computer is restarted or turned on, from the server location, the purpose we are thinking of maybe theme wallpaper if we can get this working ,e.g easter,christmas,etc

The image needs to be in C:\WINDOWS\WEB\WALLPAPER

 

The registry location is:

 

HKEY_USERS - .DEFAULT - CONTROL PANEL - DESKTOP - WALLPAPER

 

Change the registry entry to C:\WINDOWS\WEB\WALLPAPER\yourpicture.BMP

 

Logoff or restart and it should appear.

 

I'm not sure if you can have a network image, because the network settings may not be configured by the time the image is called.

 

Just have a batch file to change the image at certain times of the year.

 

Thanks that is what I already got, but it points to server, it doesn't show on restart, or turn on, only once a user has loged in and then loged off and if it gets restarted or turned off then on, it not there again.

use a batch script to place it on c drive, is what hes saying. then just use the batch script at the diffrent times of year. something in the startup script should cover it.

Are you refering to a computer startup script? which i can assign though gpedit.msc on the local machine?

 

And I know nothing about scripts , well plus I don't want it to be notice able

Ye what you want to-do is go under the gpo and put a startup script for the local machine, below is a sample for what we use, just put it in notepad and save it as a .bat extension

 

xcopy \\win2k3data\logon\wallpaper.jpg c:\windows\web\wallpaper\ /y/d/s/e/r/c/h/k/v

 

 

This just copies the file over if it has been created more recently that the one that is currently in C:\windows\web\wallpaper\ . You can also do the registry change by script if you want.

i have tried it as a paramerter and i tried it the batch without the parameter and it still dont work downloading the file

open up notepad and just copy and paste in

 

xcopy \\win2k3data\logon\wallpaper.jpg c:\windows\web\wallpaper\ /y/d/s/e/r/c/h/k/v

 

Then make the required change (changing the server address and places ), and save the file as something like "wallpaper.bat" (It must have a .bat extension) and save it in somewhere that system has full access to. then all you have to-do is add it as a script where you have added it you don't need to add any script parameters.

Does this download all the time or only when there is a date change?, if date change does it cover for new files, or create date or modifed date.

Hmm how I do the registy too (no notifcation if possible) + same above question for this too
