How do you do yours?

How have you set up your profiles for students and teachers? roaming/mandatory? Do you allow the use of outlook for students emails or just OWA?

Profiles:

 

Mandatory for both staff and pupils - no reason to have any other way since we lock things down heavily with GPOs, and redirect common folders. Mandatory profiles also make a huge difference to logon times.

 

Email:

We host our own exchange 2003 server. Some staff use full Outlook (admin usually), most use OWA, pupils have no email accounts. Past experience has shown email to be a huge time waster among our age pupils (middle school), so we stopped providing it.

We also use mandatory profiles- so much easier to manage.

 

Staff and Students have access to outlook but only staff have access to OWA. We really want to remove e-mail access to students as they mainly use it as a chat services. Its a pain, but they need it apparently for a course and the head wants them to keep it! They're abusing the system and we can't do anything about it!!

Have you encountered any problems with mandatory profiles being setup and using outlook/exchange? I have had to create a login script that automatically configures outlook so the user doesnt have to but unfortunatly the user gets the "welcome to outlook 2003" whenever they logon.

That loads automatically anyway but is only up for about a second, or are you talking about the welcome to outlook e-mail message?

Pupils: Mandatory Profiles

 

Staff: Roaming profiles

 

Email: RM Easymail for all staff and pupils.

Outlook is set up to comunicate with the RM addresses for Office Staff (and me ) only
