Air Conditioner

Anyone recommend a good floor standing air conditioner. Our room is 3mX10m and 3m high.

You need to look at the heat output of everything in the room to calculate the BTU required, rather than just the size of the room...

I know, but to be honest, there's that much stuff I just can't be bothered. AAAAHHHHHHH! I know now I'll get people replying with, "you'll regret it", "you need to work it all out correctly". But to be honest, it's only a guestimate any way, isn't it!

 

I know people who have worked it out to the 'nth' degree only to find it wholly inefficient. So, to be honest, I would just rather buy something 'fairly big' to do the job.

 

Now knowing this forum as I do, I will now get loads of feedback with incredible 'large' air con's! But I'm leaving myself open for it!!!

I was planning on getting a standalone one for a room but County wouldn't allow it. We had to have a proper wall-mounted job. Not that I'm complaining, it came out of the buildings budget and is really efficient.

I looked at it this way: It's too hot in here - whatever I get it will be cooler - more output will be EVEN cooler!

Yes and no - sorry, didn't mean to sound short on the previous reply but it definitely helps to have a rough idea of what you need to cool. My office is probably about 5x6x4 and houses 5 servers + my admin PC and various switches - when I first demanded a standalone aircon unit that vented out the window my ex boss went off to B+Q returned with 9,000 BTU unit which just about took the edge off the heat but eventually died (probably from being thrashed too much!). Before replacing I did some back of a matchbook type calculations and came up with a rough figure to go on - went back to B+Q and got a 15,000 (maybe 14?) BTU unit and can now keep the room a morguelike 18/19 right up to the middle of summer. It's definitely worth doing a little scribble - if you can't be bothered with that, just get the one with the most oomph for your money and make sure you have a warranty
