enjay Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Our daily incremental backups are running much larger than I would expect them to. On closer inspection, I see that a load of files/folders are getting included even though nothing in them has changed - based on both the file timestamps and the fact that I know those folders wouldn't have changed. Can anyone suggest what is causing our backup agent (BackupAssist 5) to identify files for backup in these locations?

enjay Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 Only if Win2K has one built in and enabled by default, as it isn't anything which I would have turned on. How could I check? I guess a good question at this point would be whether anyone knows what BackupAssist uses to identify if/when a file was last modified and backed up.
User3204 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Usually, they use the "archive" flag to notify of they require backup. If it is on they backup, if it is off they don't backup. Are these files be opened by something (I'm thinking AV utils) and the flag is changing.

I was wondering that too, but if so, why only some files? What is the AV doing which causes it to flag a file in one sub-folder but not others in the same parent folder?
