HI

Please could someone help. The server containing speedstep has died and we have had to reinstall on a new server and plug the dongle into the new server. All this works great but all the clients are all pointing at the wrong server.

We have over 350 pcs so I dont want to have to go round all the computers by running

"c:\Program Files\SpeedStep\Network Client\setnetworkpaths.exe" and then entering the server name.

Does anyone know if there is a way to do this through a group policy setting or with a registry setting that I can deploy with group policy.

Thanks for all your help.

I'm sure there is a registry or config file way but if not you could use a VBS script on startup with the sendkeys function to type in and accept the new server name with the existing application simmilar to this:

   Dim WSHShell
   Set WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
   WSHShell.Run "c:\Program Files\SpeedStep\Network Client\setnetworkpaths.exe", 1, false ' open normal window and do not wait
   Wscript.Sleep 200 'sleep for 0.2 of a second
WSHShell.SendKeys "new server name" & VbCrLf 'ssend new server name to active textbox and then the enter character
   Set WSHShell = Nothing

Hi

If I run the path in a bat file it works ok and you have to type the name of the server in and it works.

But If I run the modified script with the new server name in it it says that on line 3 character 5 the specified paths cannot be found.

The script now looks like

Dim WSHShell

Set WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

WSHShell.Run "c:\Program Files\SpeedStep\Network Client\setnetworkpaths.exe", 1, false ' open normal window and do not wait

Wscript.Sleep 200 'sleep for 0.2 of a second

WSHShell.SendKeys "print-server" & VbCrLf 'send new server name to active textbox and then the enter character

Set WSHShell = Nothing

Have you any ideas whats wrong.

Thanks for all your help.

Sounds weird, does the user that you are running the script under have permissions to run that file. Also depending on how good the programming of the software it there may be command line options avalible for the setnetworkpaths.exe. If you run the exe from command prompt like this "setnetworkpaths.exe /?" does it give you any command line switches to configure it directly without the GUI.

You could also use regmon during the change to see if it alters a key in the registry and if so which one. Replacing the registry key directly may be easier and doable with a GPO like I ended up doing for the Clickview client.

HI

I have found it changes the following registry keys

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SpeedStep\ProPainter2000\Marx]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SpeedStep\ProSketch\Paths]

I am testing to see if this will fix the problem with silent install in group policy
