Laptop - wont display on projector

This is more AV related so thought i'd stick it in here...

 

We have a Vostro laptop that has been working fine through it's projector for 5 months but all of a sudden the projector is saying unable to display. The projector image seems to be listing horizontal and veritcal hz numbers but these change all the time.

 

Have deleted the drivers and set the projector back to defaults but still having the same problem. The projector is fine as i've checked with another laptop.

 

Any ideas where the problem lies or a solution?

Has the screen resolution been changed at all?

 

Does the laptop work on another projector/monitor?

Has someone increased the resolution beyond that the projector can handle. Also I have had situation where the vga graphics card driver has been updated and does not work properly like with some of the dell d505. I have had to roll back drivers and they then start to work.

We have this problem with 3 out of 4 Vostro laptops. It just suddenly stopped working. It is also happening with some of our D520s.

I had since written this off as dodgy hardware, it would be fantastic if someone had a fix!

check the refresh rate that the laptop is outputting if its higher then what the projector supports that will stop it or the output will come out dodgy ie 60hz, 70 hz, 75 hz etc lower the refresh rate. Also if it has a graphics utility ie intel graphics display utility use that to alter the settings as I find that these type of utils over ride the default windows display settings as its constantly running in the background.

Check source on projector is set to VGA, check laptop is outputting to monitor (Fn + F5 or F8), as said change refresh rate on laptop (right-click on desktop, properties>settings>advanced>monitor>screen refresh rate) and play with a few settings, i.e- resolution.

Right after being away for a few days finally had a chance to check this out.

 

Have tried laptop on another projector still the same.

Have tried different laptop on this projector works fine.

Uninstalled/installed new drivers, different versions.

FN-F8 been tried, different resolutions have been tried, different refresh rates.

 

All the same problem... It is running Vista am tempted to stick it back to XP as it's the only one in the College on Vista.

If it is the same problem as we have here, installing Vista will not fix it. I have tried it already, I'm thinking it is hardware related...

This is no word of a lie. This happened yesterday.

 

Teacher: Why won't my laptop display on the screen?

 

Me: It's not displaying on the IWB either!

 

Press a few buttons.

 

Me: It's not working at all.

 

Teacher: It was ok until it fell off my desk.

That's amazing...

 

We had a couple of Laptops at my last place that had been mishandled slightly. Basically the connection between the socket and mobo was knackered. So could be hardware..

We have around 40 Lenovo laptops for staff! We have had around 6 suddenly stop projecting!

 

It is a hardware fault, and in the case of these Lenovo's a motherboard replacement is the only fix.
