Arthur Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 ooft that's quite a big price, and for only 5400 too.. The Western Digital GreenPower drives are fantastic even though they only spin at 5,400 rpm. I've got four of them and have already ordered the 2TB version for my Windows Home Server. They are plenty fast for what most people will use them for (as you can see from the screenshot below). http://www.mini.adsl24.co.uk/images/forums/HDTune_WD10EACS-00D6B0.png Even without the recent firmware problems, Seagate drives are often noisier and slower than the competition. Also, now that they have reduced their warranties from 5 years to 3 years on their consumer drives there isn't any reason to choose a Seagate. Even their latest 500GB 7200.12 drive hasn't had particularly good reviews either: http://techreport.com/articles.x/16472.

(Looking through my past orders, ive got a 120gb disk that cost £119 back in the day) I just needed something to put in here ASAP as wont be here much longer and need to give em as much space as possible before I go. The 1.5 will be here first thing so itll need to do.
synaesthesia Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 As good as the drives are considering the low spindle speed, for the price you'll be far better off with a pair of 1TB drives, or even 3 and considering using RAID depending on what they're being used for Can pick up 3 x 1TB drives for £220.
Spitfire Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 If it's extra network storage try using Iomega, you can mirror the hard disk, you just give them a name plug them into the network and away you go. We are using some here to keep our Ghost images on, thats how much we trust them.
