customizing announcements summary view - sharepoint

Hi we an announcement list with a wep part for it on the front page. By default it shows the date it was created/modified and a 'By' which shows the user who added it.

 

I would like to get rid of these two bits of the view if anyone knows how. When you go to edit the view all the colums are greyed out and youc ant untick them from showing.

That doesn't sound right. What permissions do you have in SharePoint?

Got it.

 

Instead of trying to modify the default view, go to the list in view all site content and choose to create a new view. Set it up as you want, make sure its public, and set it as the default list view. Then change the web part to use that as the view.

You can do other handy stuff by messing about a bit more with the annoucements webpart - like adding an image. Once Im back in on Mon, will screen grab in Sharepoint Designer how to do this. In the meantime, heres one taken from our Visitors Portal - used for non-curriculum groups such as Governors, and our MFL Partner schools which we wanted to keep separate.

I did not manage to do my original question. But I have another: Is it possible to change the font size of the title in an announcement easily?

Yes you can... Sharepoint Designer required. You can fiddle about with the webpart layout. The usual font tools are available...

I open up sharepoint designer, file>open http://mysite browse to the specific site... then im lost?

Here you go - the SPD view on that screenie posted last week (sorry - so slow! lame ) !!

 

Basically, once you open up the page with the webpart on it, you can edit the formatting within it - same as Word etc. Highlighted the areas which have been customised here.

I have found my way to the page with the web part. I have clicked on the web part, it highlights the whole web part I go up to the toolbar, change (Default Size) to say Large (18 Font) and nothing happens

Ah... right - if the main body of your post within the annoucement is set to be "Rich Text" (find out by clicking the [>] next to the body text in the item - then the formatting comes from the announcement post text itself (ie. go to the annoucement, and colour the text)...

 

EDIT: On the note of your original post - you can select the individual xsl content items within the webpart and remove them.

When using sharepoint designer make sure you do it in a test environment and also make sure you are able to restore sites.

 

People happily make changes with sd and everthing is fine for a while, then its restore time.

 

I've had long conversations with people trying to explain sharepoint doesn't go wrong with out some form of human interaction.

 

Last bit of advice always record what you are doing.

All done in house using Sharepoint Designer. We have also used some community available webparts/solutions.

 

Agree with post above - make sure you ahve a backup of the page you are working on first, eg all our stuff is done on a copy of the page we call beta. Kinda makes sense!!

Yes it makes sense to back up and use a Beta page but a lot of people do not follow that simple piece of advice.

 

Its always good to try restoring sites in as soon as you can. Practice makes perfect.

 

SD is OK but if you read the blogs out there you will know its not perfect.

How do you make a view like that which is used on the Announcment's list? What is making that summary view (only shows first few lines of body and then a click to read rest)? I would like that use that same view but on a custom list.
